The number of scientific studies documenting the health benefits of quality whey protein continues to grow, but with so many low quality whey protein products flooding the sports nutrition market, it’s easy to lose sight of how remarkable a quality whey protein can be to our health.
Please make no mistake about it: as far as supplements go, no other protein supplement can even come close to the health-promoting benefits of quality whey protein isolate. Not casein, not egg, not soy – no other protein supplement has been shown to have anywhere near the nutritional power of quality whey protein.
Whey protein is the only protein supplement that offers benefits above and beyond the proteins found in food. As we’ve already shown, processing food into powders, if it’s not done with the utmost care, can actually create toxic components which would not be found in the original food from which it’s derived, which means you’d be better off eating the actual food and not processed powders.
But whey protein is different. Quality whey protein is largely absent from the pasteurized and processed dairy available to us today. A whey protein supplement is the only way to get the powerful immune-boosting compounds not found in any other common protein food or supplement. It is these fascinating immune-boosting, and detoxifying proteins which appear to be largely responsible for whey’s beneficial effects in animal, in vitro, and human studies relating to cancer, HIV, exercise performance and recovery, and overall health.
We’ll be blogging on “Select Studies in Whey Protein” to familiarize you (or re-familiarize you) with many of the clinical studies which display whey protein’s unique and remarkable benefits.
In the nutritional industry, companies sometimes have a tendency to “spin” isolated studies to sell their products, but realize that the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence indicates that whey protein is by far the single best protein for any health-conscious person to use as a supplement. It's easy to lose sight of this fact if you rely on the nutrition industry for information. They'll sell you anything they can make a buck on. And don't be fooled into thinking that fast and slow digesting "protein blends" are the way to go - that's just a way for companies to make more money by selling you the cheapest proteins they can get their hands on.
But, remember also, in order for whey protein to exert its remarkable health-promoting effects, the delicate whey proteins must not be denatured during processing, and no whey protein supplement on the market has more undenatured protein than CFM®
Integrated Supplements 100% Natural CFM® Whey Protein Isolate contains over 99% Undenatured, active proteins – the highest level available. Whey protein just doesn’t get any better than Integrated Supplements CFM® Whey Protein Isolate.
So when you look at these studies, remember that only the highest quality whey proteins are capable delivering the greatest number of health benefits. The cheap tubs of economy whey proteins just won’t cut it.
Study: Dietary Whey Protein Protects against Azoxymethane-induced Colon Tumors in Male Rats
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Dietary choices are seen as having a large impact on the development of this type of cancer.
In this study, researchers investigated the effects of dietary whey protein versus casein protein in chemically induced colon cancer. Rats were injected with the colon-cancer-causing chemical Azoxymethane, and the rats fed whey protein had an approximately 40% lower tumor rate than those fed casein.
Several distinct mechanisms have been proposed for whey’s ability to prevent against tumor formation in the presence of chemical carcinogens. Whey’s unique ability to increase the immune-system-boosting chemical glutathione, whey’s protective effect on the liver, or the presence in whey of a unique and powerful iron-binding microfration called lactoferrin may each contribute to whey’s protective actions.
Select quotes from the study:
“These results suggest that consumption of whey protein containing diets may reduce the risk of developing colon tumors.”
This is just one study out of many – much more to come.
